Hello! We’re Scandoo, a new free service from ScanSafe.
Scandoo is about helping users make clear and informed decisions about their search results. We’ll scan your search results for security threats and classify them for content. Then we’ll tell you our findings in a clear logical format that doesn’t get in the way of searching.
A simple way to think about Scandoo is comparing it to driving and road safety. Would you rather be warned in advance by a traffic lights of the status of the junction and have the ability to slow down quickly. Or would you rather just drive anyway, straight across the junction and assume that the airbag will deploy and keep you safe?
We’re not quite finished yet, which is why we are in early beta. There’s lots of exciting new features planned, so ‘watch this space’. Work to develop and improve the service is happening continually. For this we really value your feedback; both in refining our classifications, as well as comments and features you’d love to have. Drop us a mail at feedback@scandoo.com
Who’s ScanSafe and why are they doing this?
We’re a company that’s passionate about web security and safety. Scandoo came about after hearing stories from our family and friends of the ordeals they’ve had with spyware and misleading search results that point to offensive content. Scandoo is our way of doing something about it. We think that everyone should be able to search and find great new material on the web without fear.
ScanSafe specialises in managed web security and safety. By managed web security we mean two things. Firstly we secure an organisation’s web access, so that it’s secure from security threats, such as viruses, spyware and adware. Secondly, we give them control over what content can be accessed by their employees on the web (and we’ve just started doing the same for IM!) Scandoo is our latest experiment, one that builds on both our experience and our technology in managed web security, this time applying it to search results.
Different from most computer security firms, ScanSafe has always worked on the principle of ‘prevention is better than cure’. Hence, all our services are ‘pro-active’ rather than ‘re-active’. That is they prevent security or content threats before they affect you, rather than traditional computer security products (like Anti-Virus, or Anti-Spyware) that deal with threats once they are on your computer or in your network.
